(Part 7 of 9)
There are many ways Mastercam and our partners are harnessing integrated data technology to improve manufacturing performance and profitability. Here we take a look at CAD/CAM for robots.
Today, numerous primary and secondary manufacturing processes are being performed, including cutting, de-burring, welding, spray coating and many others are being performed with robots. These 5-axis robotic processes can be developed entirely within the Mastercam environment using the totally integrated Robotmaster add-on.
Mastercam’s CAD for CAM design features are used to create a work-holding solution that allows nozzles and other tools to reach all critical areas of the part within a single setup. Unlike conventional off-line programming, Robotmaster takes a CAD/CAM approach to robotics programming. This allows sophisticated 5-axis toolpaths with optimized trajectories and complete process validation to be accomplished based on data from the same model that was used for generating the CNC part program.
This CAD/CAM approach to robotics results in a process that is safe, accurate, and efficient and substantially reduces robot process development time.
Stay tuned for the next installment of this series, in which we will focus on the topic of machine performance monitoring and optimization.
